Wild Garlic (Allium ursinum)

A wild relative of Chives, Wild Garlic (or Ramsons) grows from a small bulb and often spreads to form large clumps. It can be found in damp woods, scrub, hedges and on shady banks, where its garlicky aroma will fill the air. The leaves are edible but have a surprisingly mild flavour. This is an excellent plant for ground cover in a wet corner of the garden. Our Wild Garlic bulbs are UK Native.

Round-Headed Leek (Allium sphaerocephalon)

The round-headed leek has small underground bulbs (to about 2.5 cm in diameter). It’s found throughout Europe as far east as the Ukraine, southern European Russia and the northern Caucasus but not in Scandinavia. It is also found in the Canary Islands, North Africa, many Mediterranean islands and north-western, western and southern Turkey, as well as Syria, Lebanon, Palestine and Kuwait. These particular bulbs are cultivated in Holland.

Snakes Head Fritallary (Fritillaria meleagris)

It is native to Europe, but in many places, including France, Slovenia and Romania it is an endangered species that is rarely found in the wild, but is common in horticulturists' gardens. Pretty, pendent, white bells on slender stems emerge in April and May. These delightful wildflowers were once widespread throughout the UK, and are perfect for naturalising in a moist woodland edge or wildflower garden. It's essential to select a site where the soil remains moist in spring. These particular bulbs are sourced from Holland and Turkey.

Spring Snowflake (Leucojum vernum)

The Spring Snowflake is very similar to The Summer Snowflake (Leucojum aestivum) but with solitary scented flowers which drop pollen on the slightest impact. The flowers are pollinated by bees. Spring snowflake has a delicate and bell-like, white flower with a green spot on each petal. Like the snowdrop, both snowflake species are members of the lily family. These single flowers terminate the long bright green stems and are produced from February to April. Try it on moist ground in semi-shade. This is a good early source of nectar and pollen for bees. These particular bulbs are imported.

Summer Snowflake (Leucojum aestivum)

The Summer Snowflake or Loddon Lily (from the River Loddon in Berkshire) is a tall and an especially beautiful member of this varied family. The large and pure-white flowers appear in late spring, and are bell-like with a green spot near tips of petals. This hardy bulb has linear basal leaves which are bright green. Confined to wet meadows or marshy ground as a possible native flower (although not recorded as growing in the wild until the eighteenth century) it is also now widely naturalised and grown in gardens. This is a very suitable plant for the margin of a pond or a moist rockery.  These particular bulbs are imported.

Bath Asparagus (Ornithogalum pyrenacium)

The other Ornithogalum native to Britain, and found particularity in woods near Bath. Its spikes may be eaten as an asparagus-like delicacy. It flowers in June some time after its grey-green foliage dies back.

Bluebell (Hyancinthoides non-scripta)

Known as Jacinth in Elizabethan times, this is the native British bluebell with nodding slender and fragrant flowers. This common Bluebell flowers from April to May, its stems can be 10 - 30cm in length.

Daffodil, Wild (Narcissus pseudonarcissus)

The main daffodil species native to Britain, known as the Lent Lily. This particular species is also suited to growing on rocky ground, grasslands and in woods where shade is common.

Double Snowdrop (Galatnhus nivalis flore pleno)

This naturally occurring double form of our native snowdrop is just as easy to grow, often flowering a little earlier than the its single-flower counterpart. It can to a similar height, and produces attractive flowers.

Snowdrop (Galanthus nivalis)

The snowdrop is native to Wales and the west. This particular species has naturalised in most parts of the United Kingdom and provides excellent colour to a garden or meadow.

Spring Squill (Scillia verna)

This little squill is a wonderful feature in May along the cliffs of the Pembrookshire coast path. Growing to 2" - 4" high with starry blue flowers, it needs an open, well-drained site in the garden.

Star of Bethlehem (Ornithogalum umbellatum)

A white star-like flower which is in bloom from April to May following early foliage. Wild in grassy places from northern Europe and especially suited to growing through grass. Grows up to a height of 30cm.

Tenby Daffodil (Narcissus obvallaris)

This is the other native daffodil, and is excellent for naturalising. Easy to grow and undemanding, it reaches only 8" - 12" and flowers in March.

Wild Leek (Allium ampeloprasum var babingtonii)

In the wild in the British Isles it occurs on some rocky coasts of Cornwall, the Scillies and in south Wales. It has purple umbels of flowers and grows from a cloved bulb.

Wild Tulip (Tulipa sylvestris)

The only relative of the garden tulip found wild in Britain. It flowers in April with rich yellow blooms and the added bonus of a delicious scent. This species grows to a height of 12".

Wood Anemone (Anemone nemorosa)

This flower is also called the 'Windflower'. It prefers damp soil and light shade. Plant twig-like rhizomes horizontally, up to 1" below the surface or soil / leaf-mould.
